It’s not just Manchester who get to boast a Pride event this year, now the local LGBT community in Wythenshawe can enjoy an event of their own, even closer to home.
The first Wythenshawe Pride takes place on 20th August 2016, organised by Chris Oatway, it’s the brainchild of The Proud Trust’s youth group, the only LGBT group in the area. And we’re pleased to announce that Otten Penna will be supporting the cause and the community of Wythenshawe.
The event brings together organisations to promote and signpost existing LGBT services locally, and with a proud history of supporting the LGBT community, Otten Penna will be at the event with a stall for anyone wishing to chat to the team about any issues from LGBT family law, wills or mental health.
Matty Donaldson, Peer Mentoring & Support Youth Worker for WYnotLGBTQ said of the event, “We are hoping that the whole Wythenshawe community will get involved in Wythenshawe Pride…this is a great opportunity to bring everyone together for a day to celebrate being proud of who we are. People shouldn’t have to travel into Manchester to access an LGBT scene or group, it’s important that there are spaces locally where this can happen.”
So if you’re going to support the event this August, be sure to pop by our stall and say ‘hi’! But if you can’t make it and wish to seek advice, don’t forget we run a free Family Advice Clinic at our offices in Northenden every Wednesday 10am – 4pm and at Wythenshawe Forum every Thursday 12pm – 2pm. Appointments are free and there’s no need to book.
The first Wythenshawe Pride takes place on Saturday 20th August at the Forum Centre, Wythenshawe. See you there!
